If you are a prepaid customer, you may experience loss of money on your SIM card as soon as you start your phone. Reason? It might have Packet Data option on, which uses your operator's network for internet access. This is good to use only if you are on a data plan and have free MBs from your operator, if not you must stop it because it will keep connecting and eat up your money.

It's very easy. First you go to the Settings menu.

After that, go to Wireless and networks

Scroll down to the bottom and you should see Mobile Networks

Go there.

Next, we see Use Packet Data checked.

Uncheck it.

Your SGY now has no internet access and won't be hogging your money anymore unless you want it to.

  2. Do you know about any convenient to use widget (most useful it would be if there would be such icon on the status bar, like for BT or WIFI) to switch "packet data" on and off without need to go through those menus?

Look for Data Toggle Lite by clicking on Apps category in this blog. I find it great.
