» » Rooting your Samsung Galaxy Young


1.) First enable Unknown Sources on your phone (Settings -> Applications -> Unknown sources).

 2.) Download needed file (Universal_GB_ROOT_v9.zip) - Click here to download

 3.) Put that file on your sdcard.

 4.) Now turn off your phone

 5.) Switch on your device in the recovery mode (hold power, volume up, and home button together). Plase note that you cannot use the touch screen while in recovery mode, so for up/down use volume up/down and to select an option press the home button.

 6.) Once you started in Recovery Mode, you should see a few options, look for and select "apply update from sd card"

 7.) It will take you to your sd card directory. Find the file Universal_GB_ROOT_v9.zip that you just downloaded and select it.

 8.) Wait a few seconds, a lot of text will scroll down with some information and finally at the bottom it should say that update was successful.

 9.) It will take you back to the menu. Then select "reboot phone now".

 10.) After you reboot, look for Superuser in some of your pages. If you have it, you rooted! Congrats!

      I forgot to mention, enable USB debugging and connect your phone to computer with mass storage. Create folder by using your computer and also copy the file. :)

      Yes, I used this exact same file for my SGY running 2.3.6 and I have no problems, no boot looping, no app crashing, no bugs, nothing.

    Why not just copy the root zip file to the root of the SD card? Creating a folder just for the SD card just complicates this process for newbies.

    what is the difference betn universal gb root v9.zip and update.zip file?
    As i know the sgy which failed to root from update.zip file (showing installation aborted) used this file!!!!!!!!!!

    Well the name itself explains it, this file can root any Gingerbread version. For example, 2,3,4, 2.3.5, 2.3.6, etc

      Yes, in most cases it should succesfully remove the rooting trails without a problem.

    hello,

    i need ur help.
    i have rooted my gal y. and it got rooted then i tried to install to install fonts to change the looks and i install the app gave super user permission after the app got install i install the comic font and rebooted my android but it when it rebooted it got struck at the logo of Samsung. Now it didn't start i think it got Bricked :(:(:(:(

    i used the volume+home+lock key and put on the reboot but it still hangs on that only plz help what should i do ;( i love my galaxy y

      Try holding the following combination:
      Volume down+Home+Power/lock

      Faraz-ur-rehman sharif - It has to work, this is universal GB root.
      Meaning that it's not only for the Galaxy Y but for a lot of Gingerbread versions.

      I haven't tested it on the Galaxy Y Duos, sorry.

      You could try looking for Y Duos' rooting method at it's xda-developers board.

    I'm sorry about all the Applications folder hassle. You do not actually need to put the file into such folder, just put it on your sdcard's root directory.

    As for your sdcard mounting problem, I would advise you to format your sdcard through your phone by going to Settings -> SD card and phone storage -> then choose Format SD card. If the option is not available to select, first select Unmount SD card to unmount it.
    Beware that formatting your sdcard deletes it's contents so backup any pictures, videos or whatever you have stored on it.

    After the formatting is done, re-download the rooting zip file to your sdcard and re-do the instructions.

    I have rooted my phone, I have Superuser, but when I try to use No-Frills CPU Controller it says "Missing Root Permissions: You should be rooted to use this app"
    This happened after I installed the Black Reactor Kernel
