Have you ever wanted to use air gestures similar to the ones that the flagship phone - Galaxy S4 does? Well your dream has partially come true as xda-developers member forgin has developed this neat app that simulates the S4 air gestures. The best part about this is that it's free and it requires Android 2.2 and above.

The app uses the proximity sensor that the Galaxy Y has on the front, so now you won't only use the proximity sensor for shutting off the screen while making calls, but for a lot more things. Please note that the video you will watch below does not show all of the features the app offers, explore the rest by your own.

Main features:

  • Set apps to open with all the available gestures.
  • Silence alarm.
  • Silence incoming call.
  • Switch betwen recent apps (like back and forward behaviour)
  • Fast go to home screen
  • QuickGlance like Galaxy S4 has!!!
  • Control your music player (next/previous/pause/resume) even with screen off!!!
  • Shake phone during a call to activate/deactivate speakerphone.
  • Answer incoming call, just put your phone near to your ear (its like Hover Hold)
  • Lock/Unlock screen with hand slides!

For rooted users:

  • Slide betwen your photos in your image gallery (1 slide->next, 2 slides->previous)
  • Scroll up and down in your browser (1 slide->down, 2 slides->up. Not all browser are supported).

Screenshots:

Installing the app is pretty simple. Download either the APK from the xda-developers forum attachment or purchase the app from the Play Store. Then after you install the app, it will give you a screen where you need to enable it as a device administrator, so don't worry, just enable it and you are done.

Video demonstration on the Samsung Galaxy Y:

Download Hovering Controls - v1.3.5 (xda attachment) | Play Store ($1.35)

  2. Hi! Sorry for the off topic, but I asked this to you a while on Twitter and received no answer. I know you've tried many ROMs for the Galaxy Y, but what do you think is the lightest and/or fastest of all?

Thank in advance, I'm suscribed to your blog via Feedly because it's great to have a blog dedicated exclusively to the Galaxy Y, a low-end phone which normally doesn't get much attention. :)

  3. Hi, I'm sorry I couldn't answer your message as I have to read blog comments, YouTube comments, etc, everyday.

If you are really not into the whole TouchWiz look, then I would highly recommend that you try out the AOSP 2.3.7 GB rom: http://www.galaxyyarchive.info/2013/08/romdevaosp-gb-237.html

It's got all of the bloatware removed, so you don't have many apps running in the background, so you have a lot of storage space aswell as free memory.

Thank you for subscribing and for the feedback too.

  4. Thank you for the recommendation! That ROM looks really interesting. I'm downloading it right now, I hope to install it this week because my Galaxy Y has become very slow lately. :)

  6. Remove it from being a device administrator, that's how you will also uninstall it.

  7. Great, but I forgot to mention that the link there is for the RC1 build, there is actually RC2 now which hopefully has most bugs fixed. The link on the post has now been updated to RC2 if you ever wish to upgrade.
