Greetings, fellow Cyanogenmod fans! It's been a while since the last post regarding CyanogenMod7 has been posted here. In this post I am going to introduce you to <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4647521">PsychoGame</a>'s port of CyanogenMod7 for the Samsung Galaxy Young.
From the looks of his xda thread, he sure knows what he is doing and his progress is actually going well. This release has Bluetooth partially working from what I read on his thread, I couldn't get the chance to test it personally though. If you want to, you can also read <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40799606#post40799606" target="_blank">this xda post</a> on how to be able to share files, I believe that actually fixes the whole Bluetooth issue but like I said, haven't tested anything personally.

As for the performance, bugs and such on this rom, the only problem I could see was the screen flickering from time to time. Games such as Angry Birds and Pou managed to be playable without any force-closes (Pou used to force close on Madteam's CM7).

So below I am going to list the working/not working features of the release I am about to share with you (Alpha 4):

Working:
<ul>
<li>Audio</li>
<li>Bluetooth (Partially: Not usable yet, but the device is able to scan for other devices and is also found by other bluetooth devices) - UPDATE: Please refer to <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40799606#post40799606" target="_blank">this xda post</a> to be able to share files!!</li>
<li>Camera (Partially: Can take pictures but unable to record film material For more info look at: "known bugs")</li>
<li>Display "Hardware Accelerated" (Also with some small bugs and glitches, look at "Known bugs")</li>
<li>GPS</li>
<li>Input</li>
<li>Lights</li>
<li>Network interfaces (Mobile internet)</li>
<li>Power management</li>
<li>Radio (Phone "Incoming and Outgoing calls")</li>
<li>Sensors</li>
<li>Storage</li>
<li>Vibrator</li>
<li>Wifi</li>
</ul>
Not working:
<ul>
<li>Media, media_profiles.xml is included, but the OMX interface still needs to be properly ported which is a WIP</li>
</ul>
Known bugs:
Unfortunately the popular random screen flickering bug is still here, aswell as the camera showing a white screen even though it is able to take pictures, you can't preview them from the camera app.

Downloads:
Download CM7 Alpha 4: <a href="http://goo.im/devs/PsychoGame/cyanogenmod4.zip" target="_blank">Click here.</a>
Download PsychoGame's kernel (You need this to boot CM): <a href="http://goo.im/devs/PsychoGame/boot1.tar" target="_blank">Click here.</a>
Download Gapps (Play Store, GTalk, etc.): <a href="http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" target="_blank">Click here.</a>

So first of all, I would recommend that you safely download the CM7 zip file to your sdcard and then flash the kernel, because it is possible that after flashing the kernel, you will be stuck on yor GALAXY Y logo and won't be able to boot int your ROM to later paste it there.

Installing the kernel:
Step 1:
Download Odin 1.85: <a href="http://androidfirmwares.net/Tools/Download/1" target="_blank">Click here.</a>
Download the boot1.tar (PsychoGame's kernel) file to your computer.

Step 2:
Boot your Galaxy Y into Download mode by holding the Volume down + Home + Power/Lock button.
Once you are there, press Volume up until you go to the screen where it says something like "Downloading"
In the mean time, connect your Galaxy Y with your USB cable and start the Odin program.

Step 3:
Now it's time to setup Odin. Once you start it up, you should see in the ID:COM boxes a yellow box indicating that your phone is connected to a port. Please refer to the screenshot below:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHfhROBIr939RiGZk-dm2bSiQdvKwR_c9Poe3fm7joLGSbfcZOv727O3YxWvrxXlkzYWBbWdCo3MDuq-O7LJ_DPnkSobOiHsFdFPGpoVMOPFtelWpDneKvMBTlt-LTACXpdgcz0AxHaM2b/s1600/kernel.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHfhROBIr939RiGZk-dm2bSiQdvKwR_c9Poe3fm7joLGSbfcZOv727O3YxWvrxXlkzYWBbWdCo3MDuq-O7LJ_DPnkSobOiHsFdFPGpoVMOPFtelWpDneKvMBTlt-LTACXpdgcz0AxHaM2b/s320/kernel.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Click on the PDA button and locate the boot1.tar file which you downloaded to your computer. Select it, and press Start in the Odin program. Wait for it to flash the kernel to your phone and in the end, the first box should become in green color saying PASS! or something of the sort.

You have now succesfully installed the kernel and may unplug your phone.
Now take off your battery, insert it back in and from here, follow the ROM installation guide below, I have made a video for it.

Installing the ROM:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="266" mozallowfullscreen="mozallowfullscreen" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vkCNjM3QuqE?feature=player_embedded" webkitallowfullscreen="webkitallowfullscreen" width="320"></iframe></div>

And there you have it. This release is absolutely stunning, well working and might just be good enough for daily use.

Minimalist S3 Launcher is being developed by <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4733329">xXx~~~SHLOK~~~xXx</a> from xda-developers forums. Now I haven't really took the time to completely explore it and compare it to <a href="http://www.galaxyyarchive.info/2013/04/galaxy-s3-launcher-v35-update-for.html" target="_blank">SaM-RoN</a>'s due to the huge amount of work the <a href="http://www.galaxyyarchive.info/2013/04/weekly-poll-4-would-you-like-to-see-gya.html" target="_blank">GYA ROM</a> requires. I found this launcher to be very good because it really is very smooth as described on the xda thread.

Features:
<ul>
<li>Smooth as Butter</li>
<li>Fast and crisp response</li>
<li>Beautifull User Interface</li>
<li>Calming Colorfull touchwix Wallpapers</li>
<li>Widget's Drawer Built in</li>
<li>Smooth and Multiple animations for app Drawer and Dekstop</li>
<li>Super Customisable</li>
</ul>

<s>It's been a while since the last weekly poll. The next one is finally here and this time this one is quite important because it will be making a decision.

Anyways, the last weekly poll ended up with the following results:

Many people ask me what kind of ROM I am using, it's a stock customized to my desires. I prefer the stock Samsung TouchWiz look than any other themes including JellyBean. Currently I am still a junior in development and I am slowly beginning to understand things. I plan on keeping the Samsung TouchWiz look in pretty much any app I could try, but the look of a more expensive Galaxy Phone. I've always wanted to see the look of a Samsung Galaxy S Advance for example on my Samsung Galaxy Y. And of course, a lot of neat tweaks and much much more goodies behind all of that.
I'm pretty sure everyone wants to have his cheap phone to look like an expensive one.

There are 2 simple choices:
<ul>
<li>Yes</li>
<li>No</li>
</ul>
I'll be grateful if you leave your vote, thanks.

UPDATE:
Something went wrong with the poll, it got reset for an unknown reason.
It has been re-added now.</s>

Galaxy Young and Galaxy Fame Android Version 4.1 Released.

Dreams came true and finally we got our Galaxy Young officially on JellyBean 4.1. Samsung now released two new models of galaxy series...

[ROM] Simplicity V5 for Samsung Galaxy Y

Simplicity is a rom ported from the Samsung Galaxy Ace. From the looks of it, both <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4728903">marcussmith2626</a> and <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4971058">tom411</a> from xda-developers seem to be tweaking it.
The rom consists of a mixture look of more expensive Samsung Galaxy phones. We've got a very beautiful Settings app, a changed notifications screen with a lot of toggles, extended power menu, and much much more, all of that keeping the simple Samsung stock look. This rom is a must for stock lovers.

<a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4843361">SaM-RoN</a> from xda-developers forums has surprised us once again with another app exported off a Chinese device, and slightly modified by him to fit the phone.

This app contains 11 different lockscreens for your Galaxy Y. So you do not need to flash a custom ROM, modify any system files and thing such as that.

There is one small problem though. When you choose a custom lockscreen on this app and lock your phone, you may notice that first you go through your default system lockscreen and then you see the custom lockscreen.
Now this problem can be solved very easy, stock users can download and install the free app called <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock" target="_blank">No Lock</a> from the Google Play store. Everything you need to know on how to setup the custom lockscreen and get rid of the default lockscreen is explained in the video you will see below.

Which is better: Stock or Custom?

Many people keep asking what is better to use, a stock rom or a custom rom?

This short post is going to give some information to the newbies out there who are in this dilemma about what is better for the Galaxy Y, etc. We'll also cover the topic of overclocking and why it is bad.

Stock or Custom?
Now this one will kind of include many of my personal opinions on what I believe is better.

We all know the problems sometimes with custom roms that include custom kernels. I'm pretty sure many of you have experienced seeing your phone reboot all of a sudden for an unknown reason or all of a sudden some system apps would begin force closing.

Many people ask me all the time what I'm using, mostly when I was still with the AOSP + JB look. I personally think that using a stock rom tweaked to your taste (if you are a bit advanced of course) is best.
Now if you are like me, not the kind of guy that's much of a fan of all the JellyBean-like looks on 90% of custom ROMs but are just interested in the improved performance and smoothness not caring at all for the looks, you would want to create your own personal "custom" rom from the beginning.

In some roms (no offense to some people), there are problems, some just have too many tweaks/scripts, badly resized/rendered PNG images of the icons, let's not talk about the statusbar icons, and a few more things.
Now that is somewhat the main reason why I stay away from custom roms, those graphics such as the ICS-like statusbars don't seem to look very well on this small, pixelated screen. The default Samsung stock ones are just perfect, or the AOSP statusbar icons for instance.

I could go on, and on, but we'll end it here. My advice:
Get yourself a pure, clean stock rom (deodex it or don't, we'll cover this up in the next topic below), install ONLY the system apps and tweaks that you NEED, always make backups before installing any scripts and test the changes for a day or two, if you start to experience problems, restore your nandroid backup while your phone was still ok. Along with that I'd recommend to start off with a nice custom kernel first, there are plenty that you can find here in the kernels category, all of them are very well developed.
There are many posts here with tweaks and of course with instructions covering on how to set them up and you know with trying, you gain experience and with that experience you will become more and more knowledgable on this stuff and eventually you won't need anyone's help but you will be modding your Samsung Galaxy Y like a boss.

Should I deodex my rom or not?
Now deodexing explained in short, no smartass way, etc, is basically like another type of "rooting" your phone but it opens up access to theming your phone by modifying any system app you choose.
If you've browsed your system directory while being on a pure stock rom, you may have noticed .odex files along with the system .apk files.
There are cons and pros on this. You see, when you deodex your rom, it is reported that your internal memory gets a bit lower and your Galaxy Y boots slower, but you are able to theme it (replace system apps with customized ones).
When you have not deodexed it, you save your internal memory, have your Galaxy Y booting up faster, but you are stuck with your stock system apps.
For those of you wondering, modifying your statusbar icons and such does not require you to have a deodexed rom.
My advice:
If you don't care about the looks of your Galaxy Y and are fine to just use a custom launcher then do not deodex it! It'll be just a waste.

Overclocking: Should I do it or not?
Now first of all, I've personally never bothered trying to overclock my phone but there are methods posted out there including on the blog here by another author. I'm not sure if what some people are saying is true, that there is no actualy overclocking available for now and that it's just a visual effect, but here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
Your phone is acting faster
This unlocks a whole new gaming world for you, some apps run more efficently than before

Cons:
Battery will overheat more, possible life decrease
Bad for the Galaxy Y's CPU

My advice:
