Many times after screwing with kernels and other tweaks I've managed to ruin my WiFi module thus making me unable to connect to wireless networks and it makes you wonder what has happened.
Known symptoms:
Now if that happens you may jump to the conclusion of flashing a stock rom with Odin or again switching kernels if you are not aware of the following procedure on solving the problem very easy.
Instead of going through he hassle of flashing other roms or kernels, you can simply flash a zip file containing the WiFi module that will solve your problem immediately.

- If in the MAC Address field it says "unavailable".
- You try to turn WiFi on but you get error or it keeps turning itself off.

Instructions:
- Boot into recovery mode, then flash CWM Recovery
- Go to mounts and storage then choose mount /system
- Now go back, choose to install zip from sdcard
- Locate and find the dhd zip file and choose it
- Choose yes when asked
- After installation, go back and reboot
