This post does in no way help you upgrade or downgrade your Android version but instead, it teaches you which string to modify in order to display a custom Android version on your settings menu.

Now before we begin, the requirements are a root browsing tool, I prefer to use ROM Toolbox for this since it's got a free root browser and build.prop modifier tool.

In this guide and it's screenshots I will be using ROM Toolbox Lite for the job.

Let's begin by starting the program first, then going to the tab Performance. There you should see as in the screenshot below the build.prop Editor:


Tap on it and it will bring you to a screen filled with lots of lines:


Tap on the magnifying glass at the top right corner to search and search for "ro.build.version.release" (without the quotes).
The line will appear:


Tap on it and you will see your current Android version. Tap on the little field to edit it and change it to whatever you like. 


After you are done typing your desired Android version tap on Save and close the app. A reboot after that is required.
