First of all, you agree that you are doing this in your responsibility, be careful how you use this recovery. If anything goes wrong it's your own fault.
Instructions:
1. Enable USB Debugging by going to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development - Enable USB Debugging.
2. Download the CWM Recovery zip file by clicking here.
Place that file on the root directory of your SD card. (root directory a.k.a in no folder but the main directory when you open it).
3. Switch off your phone. Then boot into recovery mode, you should be familiar if you have rooted your phone. If not, then hold Volume up button + Home button + Power button simulatenously.
4. After you boot int Recovery, you can only use buttons to move. For up/down use volume up/down, to do a selection you press the Home button.
5. You should see an option "apply update from sdcard".
6. Select that, find the zip file you copied to your SD card earlier, press Home and the installation should start.
Once done, it will give you the option to reboot your phone, reboot and you're done! You got CWM installed, you can now flash custom ROMs. :)

ReplyDeleteI used Samsung Galaxy Y GT S5360 Gingerbread 2.3.6 and it says Unsupported Device: "Device Not Listed - GT-5360 does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Then i clicked the YES button and its asking for confirmation about a version. 2 versions are available: ClockworkMod 2.x & ClockworkMod 3.x+. The question is which one should i select and how would i know if which version is compatible to my android phone?
ReplyDeleteI used Samsung Galaxy Y GT S5360 Gingerbread 2.3.6 and when i go to the ROM Manager and Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery it says Unsupported Device: "Device Not Listed - GT-5360 does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed ClockworkMod based recovery manually?". My firmware is S5360DXLI1.
ReplyDeleteOk i've done installing the CWM manually. So when it ask me if i had installed ClockworkMod based recovery manually? I click the YES button and its asking me for confirmation about a version. 2 versions were available: ClockworkMod 2.x & ClockworkMod 3.x+. The question is which one should i choose and how would i know if which version is compatible for my phone?
Installing CWM through ROM Manager, I believe it doesn't work out well from there.
DeleteYou can just flash the zip file for now I guess. Also some kernels come with CWM so you don't have to do this annoying procedure all the time.
I did flash it using the above procedure but when i click Backup Current ROM it says about some error (forgotten) so again i go to Flash ClockworkMod Recoveryand choose the version: ClockworkMod 3.x+ then it displayed my Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 5.X.X.X
ReplyDeletethen it now allows me to backup my current ROM. Im still unsure if it backups my ROM successfully. I read from other site that some user have some problem restoring their backup ROM because they dont know which ClockworkMod Version is compatible with their phone. Im not also sure if ClockworkMod 2.x or 3.x+ is the compatible one for my phone. Btw where can i find the backedup ROM(file/folder). I tried looking at my sd card bu its not there.
tnx for the reply/replies. (im still a noobie in this kind of stuffs)

ReplyDeleteHEY BRO IS THIS SAFE......
ReplyDeleteYes and I would like to add that this is only temporary, so you need to flash the zip everytime you need to use CWM.
ReplyDeleteUsing it ofcourse without any precautions is not safe. ;)
